Project 1 Information

The first project asks you to find and summarize a professional journal article related to a challenging algebra topic. Here are some topics (chosen by Dr. Tintera’s class) to get you thinking.

  1. The conceptual meaning of slope
  2. Technical vocabulary in Algebra I
  3. Manipulating symbols in algebraic equations
  4. The meaning of function
  5. Multiple representations of equations, tables, and graphs
  6. Arithmetic operations on fractions
  7. Building rules to describe patterns
  8. Extended problem-solving tasks
  9. Factoring quadratic expressions
  10. Using and interpreting slope in context
  11. Seven components of number sense
  12. Habits of mind that support algebraic reasoning
  13. Slope and linear equations in two variables

One of the goals of the project is for you to find the professional article on your own. I encourage you to use the library or one of the following NCTM journals.

Project 2 Information

For ideas on the second project, I suggest looking through the inquiry-based activities you encounter in the class, as well as the NCTM Illuminations site or the textbooks for the class.
